Disperse dyes are used to dye synthetic fabrics. As well as immersion dying disperse dyes can also be used in a process called transfer printing. The dyes are painted on to paper, which is then placed face down on the fabric and ironed, (or in this case, put in a heat press), in order to transfer the colour to the fabric.

Making fake bones
I spent most of my weekend experimenting with different finishes to see what would best recerate the colour and texture of bone, while also covering up joins in the styrofoam. Here's the formula I eventually settled on.

Hat-making
The brief for my current module - conceptual headpieces - was to take my theme for the term and use it to design and make something that could be worn on the head. It was very emphatically not to look like a hat.

Machine knitting: punchcards and textures
I'm still playing with the punchcards on the knitting machines. Most recently, I've been using yarns that are the same colour, but have strikingly different textures.

Screen printing: final prints
Sadly, metallic inks, foil and shiny fabrics make for a photography nightmare, so the following pictures vary in quality. I also repeatedly managed to knock my screen while printing, giving the impression that many of these skeletons are jumping up and down.
