Non-traditional knitting

Last year I did some knitting with unusual materials for my constructed textiles piece, Stem. Recently I've been experimenting again with some non-standard yarns.

Fine steel wire, knitted in the round.

Paper string and fine steel wire knitted together.

Paper string and fine steel wire knitted in stripes.

1mm soft aluminium wire.

Jelly yarn.

The aluminium wire was my favourite end product - I love the industrial look it gives the knitting and the way it moves - but knitting with it was so slow and awkward. The tiny piece you can see in this post took about two hours! The fine steel wire was probably the most fun to knit with.
