End of Year Exhibition at Morley College Gallery

Each year the Textiles Foundation course ends with an exhibition at the Morley College Gallery and each year the new students are invited to the opening night of their predecessors' show. This year the private view took place on the evening of 23rd June so I went along after work to check it out.

When my invitation arrived I was actually slightly alarmed – I thought the class would be bigger. Instead there were just six students: Jane Chandler, Helena Rhodes, Sarskia Harris, Brenda Wren, Keela Moore and Jessica Turner. I guess my class will also be that small? Yikes! I was expecting more like 10 to 15 people...

The gallery was packed, but why on earth did I expect it to be quiet? Of course these six people would invite their families and their friends and their teachers. And I know that the gallery isn't even that big. Yet I was still surprised by how full (and hot) it was in there.

Tragically I was too dazed to make a note of who made what so I have no way of attaching names to any of the photographs I took. My favourites were the series of hats based on a journey up a Welsh mountain and the dresses inspired by insects! Alas, I failed to get a picture of my favourite bug dress, which was a cross between a dress, a beetle and samurai armour.
